Meet Your Colleagues

The TCMA Management Messenger welcomes Michael Kovacs as the new city manager of the City of Fate.  Michael was previously the city manager in Galveston where he worked to further the city’s recovery from Hurricane Ike.  Prior to Galveston, Michael was assistant city manager in Park City, Utah, and the chief appointed official for the cities of Port Aransas, Presidio, and Surfside Beach, South Carolina.

Michael has a master’s and bachelor’s in public administration from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi.  Michael and his wife, Fonya, have been married 18 years.  They have three sons, Matthew (17), Richard (15), and Sean (12).  Michael loves playing paintball and street hockey with his sons.  He is originally from Canada and served in the Canadian Army.  After September 11, 2001, he attained U.S. citizenship and holds dual citizenship.

The TCMA Management Messenger welcomes Curtis Schrader as the new city administrator of the City of Sundown. Curtis’ appointment began April 1, 2014 (no fooling). Prior to his appointment, Curtis served as city manager for the cities of Jal and Eunice, New Mexico, and as village administrator for the Village of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. He has also served as city administrator for the City of Marfa.

Curtis was recognized in 2011 by ICMA for “25 Years of Service to Local Government,” and is an ICMA “Credentialed Manager.” He received his bachelor’s degree and two master’s degrees from Sul Ross State University.

Curtis has a daughter, Kristen, who is a senior at Texas State University-San Marcos. His son, Chris, will be a freshman in the fall at Southwestern Assemblies of God. Curtis’ hobbies include golf, local history, John Wayne movies, and serving as a lay speaker and Gideon speaker.
